video Icel’s Vlog #1 – Deceleration of Intentions

In this first vlog (which came out crappy, I know), I tried outlining the reason behind my work to design and create content, from game and beyond.

The game in the background is Rayman Origins.  But that doesn’t really matter because this is not a gameplay video.  It’s a Vlog.  It’s the first video I actually made for the sake of making a video.  Every other video on my channel I just put along, either I played Tribes and I streamed it, just to try it out, or I recorded some Bastions; or I got excited from Torchlight 2 beta. I didn’t really narrate anything or put anything to music.

As I said, I just didn’t make any content, and I want to-  I want to begin to make content on a regular basis because this is something I want to do and I think it will help me keep my Vlog in the long run.

Hopefully the game won’t distract me too much from what I’m trying to say.

If you haven’t noticed until now, English isn’t my native language.  I’m a Hebrew speaker, so one of the reasons I’m trying to do this is actually to improve my ability to speak English openly.

At the beginning of this year, in January, I participated in SMX Israel, an international convention for search marketing and I gave a lecture in front of like 100 people and I totally forgot to speak English and it was really, really embarrassing for me, although other people said I sounded just fine.  But for me, it wasn’t fun.  I got so stressed I didn’t make all the points that I wanted to make and in the end I felt nervous, so this is one of the things that’s necessary for my life.

This video, this Vlog, I called it Declaration of Intentions.  I want to force myself to make videos.  I want to force myself to talk about video games.  I want to force myself to make content because it’s something I do all the time.  I talk to people about it.  I write about it, and there is this motivational block that prevents me from moving, and it’s annoying really.  I’m sure some of you, if not all of you, experience this in your life.  I just get along with my normal work and I forget or make excuses why I can’t do the stuff I really want to do.  I am too tired at the end of the work day or I need to do other stuff and so on, and it’s time I stop doing that.

When I was 16 I decided I wanted to work in the gaming industry.  I decided I wanted to be making these games and over the years I studied some of the industry’s jobs and I learned that I’m good at designing.

It all kind of makes sense because from around when I was 13 years old I started playing role playing games and I have written a lot of stuff.  I’ve written games and I’ve written stories and this is something natural to me, to design the game experience, to design the mechanics and to produce content that is related to storytelling and the player’s experience.

I’ve learned it’s a really big world out there and it doesn’t end with games.  That’s why I’m trying to break into other areas, designing and producing video content and blogging content and stuff like that, it was very familiar to the same stuff you design for when you make a game.  Obviously it’s not mechanic related but the experience is.  You design experiences, either interactive experience in the form of games or a non-interactive experience such as a video content or a blog – written content.

This is the stuff I’m good at and this is the stuff I want to make a living off, hopefully, and even if not a living I want to do them- Plain and simple.  This is what I want to do in my life.  As long as I just sit around doing my day job and not progressing along these lines I won’t feel complete with myself, I won’t feel completely happy, and this is something I want to change.  So, this video, it’s a Declaration of Intention.  I will make videos, at least once a week and I will continue to improve my website and hopefully in the following couple months I will also start to work with a program called Unity3D which is a game engine and an integrated development environment.  A lot of indie developers use it, primarily in mobile games, but not exclusively, and I will try and learn it can use it. So those are the things I will do from, well, I started already, but this is my official declaration (as I die again).

My official declaration to the world is that I’m going to make content, at least once a week, video content, and I will try to make these Vlogs alongside the content so will continue to progress.

As this police car driving by my street, I will finish this vlog.  Have a good week.
